A 69-year-old Mumbai resident lost ₹50 lakh (approximately $60,000, converted from INR) after a scammer used AI voice-cloning technology to impersonate a respected community figure on a WhatsApp call, claiming to be stranded in New Delhi and in urgent need of funds. A courier collected the cash in person before the fraud was discovered. Mumbai cybercrime police are investigating.
