A 56-year-old woman in Hyderabad, India lost approximately ₹71.84 lakh (about $75,000) after a Facebook advertisement featuring a deepfake video of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman endorsing a trading platform led her to a fraudulent investment website. Scammers used phone calls and a Telegram group to show fabricated profits before demanding additional “processing fees” ahead of any withdrawal. Hyderabad police have registered a case and the investigation is ongoing, with no arrests reported.
