Ford disclosed that after leaning on AI-driven quality-control and diagnostic systems in its vehicle engineering process, defect rates rose and the company faced numerous recalls and safety issues. A Ford vice president said the company had mistakenly assumed that feeding design requirements into AI tools alone would produce a high-quality product. Ford has spent roughly three years re-hiring about 350 veteran quality engineers to inspect designs, retrain staff, and rework the AI tools, while keeping AI-powered defect-detection cameras in its factories.
