A remote employee of Sutherland Healthcare Solutions sued the company in New Jersey Superior Court after she was terminated for refusing to comply with an AI monitoring tool, “Sentinel AI,” that photographed her through her webcam roughly every three minutes, about 160 times per workday. The employee, who has lupus and anxiety, submitted a doctor’s note requesting a reduced monitoring frequency as an accommodation; the company offered her the choice of accepting full monitoring, commuting to the office, or losing her job, and terminated her on September 8, 2026, after it rejected her accommodation request. Her lawsuit alleges disability discrimination and retaliation.
